WEST CARROLLTON SCHOOL DISTRICT

The West Carrollton School District (WCSD) is located south of the City of Dayton in the southern portion of Montgomery County, Ohio.  Our ten square mile district serves portions of three municipalities – City of West Carrollton, City of Moraine, and Miami Township.  Our organizational culture is built upon, around, and with three tenets – 1) Baldrige Criteria (alignment, continuous improvement, and results), 2) 40 Developmental Assets (positive growth and development of students), and 3) Professional Learning Communities (student/staff learning and instruction).  Our purpose is to be the School District of Choice in Ohio!  WCSD Core Values are:  Improvement, Learning, Leadership, Value, and Results.  The table below illustrates our Core Competencies and aligned, complimentary Core Beliefs.

AWARDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

The WCSD received the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Tools for Schools (TfS) Excellence Award in 2003 (one of only 6 districts in the nation) and the National Mentorship Award in 2006 (one of only 6 districts in the nation).  The WCSD has presented at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tools for Schools National Symposium as clinical faculty for the past four years.  In 2004, the WCSD won the Ohio Award for Excellence at the gold level. In May of 2009 – following five years of continuous process, quality, and financial improvement, an application was submitted for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

For the past four years, the WCSD has partnered with Project 40 to organize the Greater Dayton Conference on Youth.  The conference’s mission is to develop, promote and sustain intentional, community-wide asset building – focused on the deployment of the 40 Developmental Assets.  The Assets are defined as the strengths necessary for the healthy development of today’s youth.

The WCSD has utilized House Bill 264 funding to renovate and rejuvenate buildings and facilities.  These energy saving initiatives and projects have saved taxpayers 4.8 million dollars.

The West Carrollton High School received the Harold A. Meyer Sportsmanship Award from the Ohio High School Athletic Association in 2008 and 2009 (1 of only 55 in the State of Ohio).  This award is presented to schools that demonstrate they have completed an eight-part program that promotes sportsmanship, ethics and integrity in their schools and communities.

Beginning with the 2010-2011 school year, the WCSD will be offering all day Kindergarten.

The WCSD has utilized the comprehensive framework of the Baldrige criteria to document, achieve, and sustain high performance.  The work has been focused on and by our core values: Improvement, Learning, Leadership, Value, and Results, and we have grown and continue to grow into a high performing organization.  All organizations have a story to tell – ours is a great story about people working together with passion and a sense of purpose to make a difference for students and stakeholders throughout our community.  We Care – We Communicate – We Continuously Improve!
