July 2011

MY SIDE OF THE CONVERSATION

When the May 25th "storm of storms" hit, little did I know what a huge rollout for our Customer Service Promise it would become!

The next morning after the storm when daylight showed us the destruction, we all became customers in need; asking for service, repair help and attention.  Wasn't it interesting to see who was able to provide service and assistance in these unusual circumstances?!

Yes, I learned patience while I waited my turn with insurance, roof and contract repair people.  But I also, awarded my repair contracts to the most professional and service minded vendors.

Over 30 uninvited roofers came to my door, vagrant storm chasers, annoying or shady looking people from out of town all trying for the opportunity to fast talk and short change me out of my insurance dollars.  What an experience it was!

Lesson to pass on ----- the winners in this chaos were the businesses with excellent reputations, great customer service, and with a professional game plan to fulfill their promise.

Would your business fill this bill? Better check and see and be prepared!

Julia Maxton

President

Wear the Promise

The South Metro Regional Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce it's innovative

"Customer Service Promise" Campaign.

Available immediately are bright green Customer Service Promise silicone bracelets designed for business's to provide for every employee to wear as a reminder of the #1 business success secret - Customer Service.

Each green bracelet, which is the color of money, comes with a printed copy of the Chamber's Customer Service Promise as well.

President Julia Maxton states, "With a fluid economy, a customer service focus is a sure way to stabilize the bottom line.  Every customer is a gift; every return customer is acknowledgment of approval."

This Chamber initiative is highly successful at all levels.

ATTENTION MANAGERS & BUSINESS OWNERS

Customer Service Promise

Please take the time to revisit the customer service skills of your business.

Don't wait for an unpleasant situation with a customer to focus on the daily interactions of your business with your most valued asset - your customers.

  • Do you practice loyalty programs to encourage return business?
  • Is your service consistent with your brand message?
  • Are your employees, clean, neat and appropriately dressed?
  •  Have you really looked at your business's physical, visual, verbal and audio impact, such as noise levels, cleanliness, and attractiveness?
  • Is your premise barrier free for impaired customers?
  • Are you easy to locate, park, and enter?
  •  Is your environment inviting and friendly, well lighted and safe?
  • Do you have "a first impression specialist" designated to greet every newcomer and welcome them into your premise, ie., hostess, receptionist, lead clerk, telephone receptionist?
  • Are all employees trained to be prompt and pleasant at all times, selling the value of your business a priority, even if you are not present?  Do you have neutrals shop your business?
  •  Are your operational and business regulations unrealistic and customer negative, or designed to be sales positive?

I am certain every business can improve in these areas and more.  Unfortunately these improvements don't always occur.

Please remember, please implement:

Every business opportunity is a gift; return business is an acknowledgement of approval.
