MY SIDE OF THE CONVERSATION

What are you telling me?

A lot of conversation these days centers around something sad that is occurring in all sectors.

"This" phenomenon is called many things - apathy, distraction, bad manners, isolationism, whatever.

The bottom line is there seems to be nothing that can motivate folks to focus or plan on anything other than at the present and how it concerns them.

That's fine I guess if you live alone, need no future, and could not care less about your peers.  I hate to see it occurring.

"This or It" means that meetings, charity events, games, speakers, how to's that require a time, place, date and overhead income are failing regularly.

Chamber leader's talk, wedding planners talk, educators talk, business executive's talk, - we all are experiencing "This or It".

We have found no solutions; we have no magic fix either.

I don't know if you have begun to notice - but we all are calling UNCLE!  We all agree to give up the challenge and cut back.  You are beginning to see the end as organizations put a hold on many traditional gatherings and meetings, beautifully planned, anticipated and important events.

They soon will be no more; calendars will be empty, charities out of funds, people skills totally replaced by a "web" button.

Please accept my apology beforehand; I hate to give up on these gatherings and meetings that I used to look forward to, how about you?  Will you miss them when they are gone or will you be too busy to notice?

Julia Maxton, President

We are all looking for that magic bullet that will reverse the course and lead us back to prosperity. I say referrals! Think about it. When was the last time you referred business to a friend or more importantly to a fellow Chamber member? For that matter when was the last time that you referred a new business to the Chamber? When we fail to refer to each other that is a lost business opportunity. As a result that piece of business may very well be lost to the local and maybe even to the area economy. Without this important piece of the business puzzle we all suffer. All businesses depend on referrals, be it a chain, a mom and pop operation or outside sales. We live or fail by referrals from our customers, friends and business associates. We are all busy and stressed by our countries financial situation and the state of the local economy. This sentiment is echoed in my everyday conversations with members and prospective members. The next time the opportunity arises be sure to find out if there is a Chamber member that you can refer to and do so. If you know of a new business moving into the area let them know about the South Metro Chamber. Help to make and keep our local (South Metro) economy strong.
